Mitigation of environmental impact from livestock and sustainability assessment

COST Action LivAGE

Aims to enhance international discipline cooperation for exchanging ideas and knowledge, sharing good practices, assess technologies that could result in reducing the emissions of GHGs and ammonia from livestock buildings and thus to lead to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable livestock production.

MilKey

The project aims to develop a whole system concept for 3P sustainability of dairy production systems (DPS) for key European regions. GHG and N mitigation is a core aim, accompanied by other environmental impacts, and by the analysis of economic and social factors, applying a multi-actor, whole system approach throughout the project.

Agribalyse

The French National life cycle inventory database for animal feedstuffs.

LIFE CARBON DAIRY

Reduction of cow-milk carbon footprint in French dairy cattle farms.

LIFE BEEF CARBON

Reduction of beef meat carbon footprint in French beef cattle farms.

SusCatt

Evaluation of the productivity, resource-use efficiency and consumers’ acceptability of a transition to high forage and pasture diets for European cattle.

SUSTAINBEEF

Co-definition and evaluation of sustainable beef farming systems based on resources non edible by humans.

ANIMALFUTURE

Assessment of the trade-offs between the different aspects of sustainability at all levels from the farm, to the region and to the EU.

MACSUR

Brings together the excellence of research in modelling grasslands, livestock, crops, farms, and agricultural trade in order to improve the modelling of climate change impacts on European agriculture and in order to illustrate to political decision makers how climate will affect regional farming systems and food production in Europe.

MELS

Aims to build on the Global Research Alliance DATAMAN project by collating additional data on emissions from manure management and activity / ancillary data. The data will be used to generate functional relationships between emissions and activity/ancillary variables, enabling a refinement of national inventories and better assessment of the cost-effectiveness of a range of mitigation measures.

Precision (Livestock) Farming

4D4F

Focuses on developing a network for dairy farmers, dairy sensor technology suppliers, data companies, agricultural advisors and researchers, to explore ways to use data generated by dairy sensors to support improved decision making by dairy farmers.

NEFERTITI

Aims to create added value from the exchange of knowledge, actors, farmers and technical content between networks in order to boost innovation uptake and to improve peer to peer learning and network connectivity between farming actors across Europe.

RES4LIVE

RES4LIVE is an H2020-funded project whose strategic objective is to develop and bring into the market integrated, cost-effective and case-sensitive renewable energy systems (RES) towards achieving fossil-free livestock farming. To this end, RES4LIVE adapts and tests promising RES technologies in energy-intensive livestock farming (swine, dairy and poultry) for greatly reducing the use of fossil energy.

ROBOFARM

Creation of a technology platform that integrates and harmonizes existing software and hardware technologies into a single system and makes use of robots equipped with sensors and active vision systems to automatically collect data from the field, feeding a farm management DSS and considering the agronomical, environmental and food safety aspects.

FREEWALK

Economic, sound free walk cattle farming systems elevating animal welfare, health and manure quality, while being appreciated by society.

Precision (livestock) farming

“2021 ERA-NET Joint Call projects”

The four ERA-NETs FACCE ERA-GAS (Monitoring and Mitigation of Greenhouse Gases from Agriculture and Silviculture), ICT-AGRI-FOOD, SusCrop (Sustainable Crop Production) and SusAn (Sustainable Animal Production Systems) have coordinated and aligned efforts and established a joint transnational funding initiative in the field of agricultural greenhouse gas (GHG) research, focusing on circularity in mixed crops and livestock farming systems. 9 projects all over Europe were funded.

BioBeo

BioBeo is a two-and-a-half-year project with 15 partners to develop and deploy an education programme to enhance engagement across society regarding lifestyle, circularity and bioeconomy, using the five bioeconomy themes Interconnectedness, Outdoor Learning, Forestry, Life Below Water and the Food Loop.
